"Come and listen…and I will tell you what He did for me." Ps.66:16

Will You Be the One?

I know …. I know ….I don’t have kids …. but if I did have a daughter …. I would want a direct phone line into my amazing friend and author Lynn Cowell.  I love her heart for her daughters, for other mommas and for their daughters!  Through her words she connects their hearts together in amazing and fun ways.

Lynn is the author of His Revolutionary Love and has just released a devotion book for girls, Devotions for a Revolutionary Year, 365 Days of Jesus’ Radical Love For You.  I love her books and the messages of her books so much that I gave my highlighted copy away to a dear friend so that she could walk her daughter through His Revolutionary Love.

Welcome Lynn and please leave her a comment here and feel free to ask questions! She’ll be checking in and answering during the day.  And make a comment to win one of two Revolutionary Bundle giveaways!  We will be giving away two bundles – each containing one copy of His Revolutionary Love and one copy of Devotions for a Revolutionary Year!  Winners will be announced on Friday!!

Will You Be The One?

My heart breaks as I watch my girl struggle. Navigating the waters of school, I watch as the storms of rejection slam against the boat of her heart.

Often, I feel like I’m in the storm with her. Why do I feel vulnerable when as I see the tears in her eyes?

I guess it is because the memories of my own turbulence as a teen are not too far gone. The painful world of growing up comes to the surface; the confusion, the brush-off of the boy, and the constant over analyzing of me.

Watching her struggle also brings up another emotion: thankfulness. Thanksgiving to God for sending some amazing friends into my life when I was a young woman. I don’t forget the friends who helped me discover that no man, be it a dad, boyfriend or even a husband one day, could fill the love gap that is in my heart. Only Jesus could fill what He created.

I am also thankful that God has placed me here, in my girls’ lives, to share with them this same truth. You see, when Jesus showed me that He was the only one who could fill the emptiness of my heart, He didn’t just give that truth to me for me! Jesus gave me this truth so that I can pass His radical love onto my kids and the young women I invest in each week.

What is one truth that God has revealed to you that you can pass on to your children, your children’s children or the young people in your world? God has given revelations to you; treasures from His word, glimpses into His heart. He has entrusted those to you not just for your benefit, but also for the benefit of those within your family and in your sphere of influence.

Has the Lord given you a clear understanding of forgiveness? Help your child to grasp this by helping them work through forgiveness. Has the Lord helped you to experience His healing? Come alongside those in your life, taking their hand as they walk through healing. Do you cling to hope because the Lord has given you hope? Help another to find hope in the middle of their circumstances.

Deuteronomy 4:9 tells us, “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”  You have opportunity and influence in the lives of your children and those in life that no pastor, coach or teacher has.

Let’s not take for granted all that the Lord has done in our lives. Instead, let’s be intentional about passing on to those who come behind us all the good things that the Lord has done so that they too can trust Him for the things that are to come in their lives.

I know so many young girls that need to realize that Jesus is the only one that can feel that void. I also know some young women that need to know this. Thanks for providing help and guidance.

Thank you Lynn- You are always so encouraging to me! I am thankful God brought you into my “online” world 🙂 Your words remind me that I have an important role as a mom to train up my daughter’s to see themselves the way God see’s them and to always run to HIM for their comfort and strenth and everything else they need. It reminds me too that God is my only source of true contentment, that my father nor my husband could ever truly give that to me. Thanks for your encouragement!!

Thanks for all the advice, I needed this myself as a young teen and even so raising a daughter! Hope to win I need this!

  5. Angela, isn’t Jesus the best to bring into our lives what we need no matter what stage we’re in?

  6. I was so thankful to hear this story today. I know it hurts, from my own experience as a tween that got pick on. It was a blessing to see how what the enemy meant for bad, so much good is coming from.

  7. As the mother of a daughter who has a very visible skin condition, we battle how cruel people can be every single day. I wonder how children at such a young age become so intentionally mean. My prayer every day for my daughter is that she know Christ and His love for her, and that what He thinks of her FAR outweighs anything else. She wonders why God made her this way, and I tell her that He knew she could handle it and that she will use what she learns to minister to other little girls. Praise God that all things work to the good of those who love the Lord.

  8. Looking forward to sharing your 7 day Faith Builders with my 13 year old daughter. As our church grows, looking forward to starting programs for the young ladies of our church as well. So thankful for those in my life who shared Jesus’ love with me and now I can share his magnificant love with others.

  9. Thank you for this reminder to be an encouragement to other who are walking where we once walked. God does all things for our good and for His glory.

  10. Did the 7 day faith builder w/ my girls and enjoyed it. Would love the book!

  11. Thanks for being a source to bring Jesus to teens in a way they can understand on their level and to help us moms out too!

It is BEYOND important to recognize the fact that God is all you need. I have so much peace in my heart because I can rest in that. I wish I had learned that lesson as a teenager. My 14 year old daughter is light years ahead in her relationship with God than I was at her age and I am so happy for her!!!

I’m raising a 12 year old granddaughter. I would love her to have all the resources available to keep her on the right track for God.

  14. My daughter turns 16 in 20 days! (So hard to believe, and she’s my baby!) She is often complemented on her physical looks as well as her scholastic achievements. I know some girls (I’ve overheard them) look at her and think she has everything going for her and that she has no troubles. What they don’t realize are the pressures that even she faces. School administrators pushing her harder and harder to try more advanced classes than she’s already in, (I believe they mean it as a way to “encourage her to reach for more but she doesn’t always see it that way.), coaches telling her that because she’s so talented she needs to do more, (she then pushes to the point of exhaustion), and then the people at church….. Her daddy (my husband of 27 years) is the youth pastor. So many feel as if they have some sort of “right” to critique everything in her life. Honestly, I struggle many times trying to help her learn to forgive them of their thoughtless comments. Like many moms, I hurt when my daughter cries and when her heart is broken, mine is too! I would love the resources you’re offering to help my daughter grow in her walk. And if my comments here (which are hard for me to post, to confess if you will) help anyone else or open their eyes to the lives of their staff members children then praise be to God!

I am raising 2 bonus babies (not a fan of the word step) and one of my own. my girls are 12 in 20 days, 13 and 15. and i want them to know that no matter what they’ve been through and whatever they are going thru that they have a Father in heaven that loves them like no other!!! I want to leave a legacy in them that they were all created and called by God for a purose. We are all his workmanship and I didnt realize that until I became an adult. I want them to get it now. I want them to know that they are beautiful and worthy of so much more than the world has to offer them. Thank you Lynn for writing this and for your words of encouragement on you blog, devotions and books. May you be richly blessed 1000 times over. I have oreder the devotion book and am looking forward to starting it with my girs but I would love to have this series study to share with my girls and other girls.

  16. I have a 14 year old that just entered public school & high school this year. It is hard to watch her go from a class of 16 to 400 students. Watching her navigate who would be a good friend, and how to fit is socially while still being true to herself is hard. I have heard more comments that are negative about her weight and looks in the last few weeks than I ever have before. I try to tell her truth, how God views her and I view her, but it doesn’t seem to stick. It doesn’t count because I am “mom”, so of course I think she’s great and therefore my words don’t have validity. Thank you for the encouragement to keep building into her truth of who she is in Christ, and not what the world sees.
